What it is.
UnderTheGrid.com is the alternative event hub. We were tired of having the same old events forced on us by the marketing juggernauts, so we set out to create an event guide that's run by its users. On UnderTheGrid.com anyone can post events, anyone can update events, adding useful details, and everyone can discuss those events.
To make it easier to find the events that you want to see, we set up several ways, both active and passive, to search our listings. Naturally, you can search the website itself for events and narrow your searches by category, date, and location. You can also save your searches and have new events matching your qualifications automatically sent to your email address, or you can set up a custom RSS feed and pull only the events that you want to see.
And to prove that we aren't trying to dictate your event attendance decisions like the corporate-controlled event guides, we're making the UnderTheGrid system open source, so anyone can contribute to the project or run a guide of their own. What's more, anyone running our system on their own servers can optionally link to us or any other UnderTheGrid website. You can choose to pull any or all of our events to your website and you can send new events from your website back to us.
All we want is to spread information and let people know about the events that are of interest to them, which they might otherwise never find.
How we got here.
UnderTheGrid.com started its life as EventNation.com in late 1999. Originally designed to help people find conferences, conventions, and seminars, it was soon usurped by the dance music community as a way to quickly distribute information about underground parties. EventNation.com thrived in this capacity for several years, until a lack of time and resources (and a bit of poor planning) nearly lead to its downfall in 2004. After stagnating for more than a year, the good folks at Brown Paper Tickets offered us some support in the form of servers and bandwidth. This was enough to rekindle our desire to make this the best service ever. After a slight change of focus, the design of new tools and features, and a massive rewrite, EventNation.com was reborn as UnderTheGrid.com. And this is where we are now. With the help of our users, we hope to make UnderTheGrid.com and the UnderTheGrid network the best place to look for event information that you can trust.
