Arts & Entertainment.Music 26740 Gualala CA United States 95445 707-884-1138 http://www.GualalaArts.org The Crockett Brothers (Joel, Chris & Jeremy), who bill themselves as "Authentic Brothers in an Artificial World", search for the 60s musical style that will turn them into the next Beach Boys, Beatles, Bob Seger, Byrds, Bob Dylan or Brothers Four. Their Back to the 60s concert features some of the best known songs of the era, including Folk, Country, Folk Rock, Doo-Wop, Surf, British Invasion and that good old Rock and Roll. Laugh along as they dramatize the struggles and minor victories in their quest for fame and fortune. Listen to their own spin as they sing favorites from the sixties and share original songs and stories from their self-fabled past (including their now collectible tunes from the era of Del-Fi Records, "Mother Mother May I Go Surfing" and "Fastest Car In Town"). Introduction will be by radio personality Fred Adler. Joining them on the keyboard will be the talented Don Krieger. Local book store owners, Joel and Jeremy Crockett, and their middle brother, Christopher, were born into a musical family. Their father, John Crockett, performed on his own radio show in Fresno, California, when he was only 12 years old. Later, he and his whole family starred as hillbilly musicians on their own weekly national radio show. At one point, Billboard Magazine listed John as one of the United States 10 top country guitarists. John encouraged his sons to explore music. He sang with them and taught them harmonies. And he continued to pursue his own musical interests as a songwriter, singer and guitar player. Joel, probably because he was the oldest, was the first to express real interest in music. As a youngster he often sang with his brothers. In school he was a member of the school chorus and he sang in the church choir. After high school, he and some of his friends started a singing group called The Outsiders. Eventually they signed a recording contract with Eastman Records, a small label in Southern California. About this time, Joels younger brother Christopher began to show increasing interest in music. It quickly became evident that his talents, both as a writer and as a singer, far eclipsed Joels. He joined The Outsiders for their last one or two recordings, after which he, Joel and their youngest brother Jeremy started their own group with the highly creative name, The Crockett Brothers. They signed a contract with Del-Fi records, the label which included such artists as Johnny Crawford (from The Rifleman TV series) and Richie Valens (La Bamba). After several years of singing together, The Crockett Brothers went their separate ways. The only one to stay continuously involved with music has been Christopher. He performs and writes. Occasionally, however, the brothers still get together mostly just to have fun. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! Arts & Entertainment.Music 24398 Newman CA United States 95360 (209)862-4490 http://www.westsidetheatre.org The live shows of Pink Floyd have set a new standard in the music industry with accompanying video and laser light technology. It is this extra added dimension that sets them apart from other great "live" rock performances. House of Floyd, a full production musical and visual tribute to Pink Floyd, was formed in early 2005. After an extensive search and audition process led by Mark Showalter, former saxophonist/keyboardist of The Gregg Allman Band, seven extremely talented musicians were assembled from all over the San Francisco Bay Area for their great ability, years of experience and love of Pink Floyd to form House of Floyd. The band has diligently recreated not only the sounds of all the great Pink Floyd albums, but it has also incorporated the video and lighting experience that live Pink Floyd performances are known for. You will be amazed at the accuracy of this re-creation of one of the greatest band in the history of rock and roll. The band members, Mark Showalter (lead vocals, keyboards, saxophone); Pat Potter (lead vocals, guitar); Lou Portela (bass guitar, vocals); Doug Canfield (drums); Bill Coonley (guitar, lapsteel, keyboards, vocals); Sheri Showalter (vocals); and Mellissa Harley (vocals); bring over 30 years each of musical experience to the Pink Floyd recreation. Coupled with six lasers, strobes, a fog machine, video editing, and a computerized light show, this promises to be an awesome show. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! There's no question why they gave Joe Kubek the nickname "Smokin'." He's one of the hottest electric guitar players on the blues scene today. Kubek has the technique and the chops to burn up any stage and has been doing so for the past 30 years. A guitar prodigy at the age of 14 the Texas guitar slinger frequented the Dallas bar scene during the 1970's and early 80's playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and people like the three Kings, B.B., Albert and Freddie. Kubek didn't hit his stride, however, until he teamed up with jazz guitarist and singer Bnois King of Monroe, Louisiana, in 1989. Kubek found that King's softer, jazz based guitar and vocals perfectly complimented his own headier rock-inspired guitar work. The combination just clicked, resulting in a seamless mesh of styles. Joe and Bnois are a study in opposites. Kubek explodes on stage with blazing blues/rock style born from the guitar traditions of Texas. King finesses fat chords with a hollow body Gibson and belts out blues with his whisper to growl voice, his sound rooted in the jazz tradition of Louisiana. Together, they form a musically intuitive partnership. King finesses fat chords with a hollow body Gibson and belts out blues with his whisper to growl voice, his sound rooted in the jazz tradition of Louisiana. Together, they form a musically intuitive partnership. Their band has been touring nearly steadily for the past 11 years building a loyal following while earning a reputation as one of the baddest-ass blues bands in the land. His vocals evoke the sound of early Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. Arts & Entertainment.Music 25276 Newman CA United States 95360 (209)862-4490 http://www.westsidetheatre.org George Cole has played to sold out shows at Carnegie Hall in New York and The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. He dazzled audiences at The Grammys Showcase in November 2008. Cole's superbly crafted and melodically sophisticated original music reminds us of the best of George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, and Cole Porter. He is considered by many of his peers to be one of the top "acoustic shred masters". His highly stylized approach sounds like a cross between Django Reinhardt and vintage Les Paul. George's crooning vocals evoke the sound of early Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. His songs have a Jazz Age, Swing Era, and Gypsy Jazz rhythm that will make you want to move your feet and get up and dance. Some of his finest compositions are slow exquisite waltzes, such as "Sheila's Waltz" and "Waltz of the Trees." Vive Le Jazz! could either suggest a hot sultry evening in a Parisian nightclub in the Jazz Age or the energy of a large rock concert in a stadium. The mix of high energy guitar playing, soaring violin flights, and propulsive "le pompe" rhythm guitar style creates a dynamic musical experience. George's compositions are regarded as some of the most sophisticated and intelligent music that has ever been written. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets!
