Arts & Entertainment.Music 26740 Gualala CA United States 95445 707-884-1138 http://www.GualalaArts.org The Crockett Brothers (Joel, Chris & Jeremy), who bill themselves as "Authentic Brothers in an Artificial World", search for the 60s musical style that will turn them into the next Beach Boys, Beatles, Bob Seger, Byrds, Bob Dylan or Brothers Four. Their Back to the 60s concert features some of the best known songs of the era, including Folk, Country, Folk Rock, Doo-Wop, Surf, British Invasion and that good old Rock and Roll. Laugh along as they dramatize the struggles and minor victories in their quest for fame and fortune. Listen to their own spin as they sing favorites from the sixties and share original songs and stories from their self-fabled past (including their now collectible tunes from the era of Del-Fi Records, "Mother Mother May I Go Surfing" and "Fastest Car In Town"). Introduction will be by radio personality Fred Adler. Joining them on the keyboard will be the talented Don Krieger. Local book store owners, Joel and Jeremy Crockett, and their middle brother, Christopher, were born into a musical family. Their father, John Crockett, performed on his own radio show in Fresno, California, when he was only 12 years old. Later, he and his whole family starred as hillbilly musicians on their own weekly national radio show. At one point, Billboard Magazine listed John as one of the United States 10 top country guitarists. John encouraged his sons to explore music. He sang with them and taught them harmonies. And he continued to pursue his own musical interests as a songwriter, singer and guitar player. Joel, probably because he was the oldest, was the first to express real interest in music. As a youngster he often sang with his brothers. In school he was a member of the school chorus and he sang in the church choir. After high school, he and some of his friends started a singing group called The Outsiders. Eventually they signed a recording contract with Eastman Records, a small label in Southern California. About this time, Joels younger brother Christopher began to show increasing interest in music. It quickly became evident that his talents, both as a writer and as a singer, far eclipsed Joels. He joined The Outsiders for their last one or two recordings, after which he, Joel and their youngest brother Jeremy started their own group with the highly creative name, The Crockett Brothers. They signed a contract with Del-Fi records, the label which included such artists as Johnny Crawford (from The Rifleman TV series) and Richie Valens (La Bamba). After several years of singing together, The Crockett Brothers went their separate ways. The only one to stay continuously involved with music has been Christopher. He performs and writes. Occasionally, however, the brothers still get together mostly just to have fun. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! Houston Jones features Travis Jones (lead vocal, rhythm guitar), Glenn Houston (lead acoustic and electric guitar), Henry Salvia (keyboard and accordion), Chris Kee (standup bass and acoustic guitar), and Peter Tucker (drums and percussion). They incorporate so many different influences and make it seem so easy. The songs are powered along by the high-energy drumming of Tucker and supportive, full-bodied arrangements. Jones' lead vocals are one of the group's strong features, with everyone else chipping in backing vocals. What separates Houston Jones from similar bands, though, is the high quality of the songwriting, with great hooks, melodies, and compelling lyrics. These guys are stone pros, pushing every boundary possible, and creating something that is wholly unique, with layers upon layers of subtleties. You can hear bluegrass, delta blues, western, gypsy, swamp, spanish, rock, jazz, celtic, and God knows what other influences. They are surpassingly good and fun to watch live. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! Arts & Entertainment.Theatre 25841 Milton DE United States 19968 (302) 684-3400 http://www.miltontheatre.org In a festive mood, the ladies of The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society mount another assault on the classics with their stage version of A Christmas Carol. They enthusiastically portray a dizzy array of characters from the Dickensian favorite--and a few which aren't. They engineer some novel audience participation while bravely contending with an intrusive PA system. In a real Farndale first, they even wrap their vocal cords and feet around two original, show stopping songs. Another classic dramatic massacre that is sure to enthrall audiences seeking a light-hearted, family-friendly holiday experience. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! He and Barry Melton co-founded Country Joe & the Fish which became a pioneer psychedelic rock band with their eclectic performances at The Avalon Ballroom, the Fillmore, Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock. Their best-known song is his "The "Fish" Cheer / I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag," a black comedy novelty song about the Vietnam War, whose familiar chorus ("One, two, three, what are we fighting for?") is well known to the Woodstock generation and Vietnam Vets of the 1960s and 1970s. He is also known for "The Fish Cheer" which was a cheerleader-style call-and-response with the audience where Joe spelled out "fish" ("Give me an F!"). -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! This 1895 masterpiece is one of the most famous of all comedies. It revolves around an ingenious case of mistaken identity and is filled with some of the wittiest language to be found in the English-speaking theatre. The characters gently challenge the traditional moral platitudes saying that divorces are made in heaven and the truth isnt quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. Arts & Entertainment.Music 24398 Newman CA United States 95360 (209)862-4490 http://www.westsidetheatre.org The live shows of Pink Floyd have set a new standard in the music industry with accompanying video and laser light technology. It is this extra added dimension that sets them apart from other great "live" rock performances. House of Floyd, a full production musical and visual tribute to Pink Floyd, was formed in early 2005. After an extensive search and audition process led by Mark Showalter, former saxophonist/keyboardist of The Gregg Allman Band, seven extremely talented musicians were assembled from all over the San Francisco Bay Area for their great ability, years of experience and love of Pink Floyd to form House of Floyd. The band has diligently recreated not only the sounds of all the great Pink Floyd albums, but it has also incorporated the video and lighting experience that live Pink Floyd performances are known for. You will be amazed at the accuracy of this re-creation of one of the greatest band in the history of rock and roll. The band members, Mark Showalter (lead vocals, keyboards, saxophone); Pat Potter (lead vocals, guitar); Lou Portela (bass guitar, vocals); Doug Canfield (drums); Bill Coonley (guitar, lapsteel, keyboards, vocals); Sheri Showalter (vocals); and Mellissa Harley (vocals); bring over 30 years each of musical experience to the Pink Floyd recreation. Coupled with six lasers, strobes, a fog machine, video editing, and a computerized light show, this promises to be an awesome show. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! There's no question why they gave Joe Kubek the nickname "Smokin'." He's one of the hottest electric guitar players on the blues scene today. Kubek has the technique and the chops to burn up any stage and has been doing so for the past 30 years. A guitar prodigy at the age of 14 the Texas guitar slinger frequented the Dallas bar scene during the 1970's and early 80's playing with Stevie Ray Vaughan and people like the three Kings, B.B., Albert and Freddie. Kubek didn't hit his stride, however, until he teamed up with jazz guitarist and singer Bnois King of Monroe, Louisiana, in 1989. Kubek found that King's softer, jazz based guitar and vocals perfectly complimented his own headier rock-inspired guitar work. The combination just clicked, resulting in a seamless mesh of styles. Joe and Bnois are a study in opposites. Kubek explodes on stage with blazing blues/rock style born from the guitar traditions of Texas. King finesses fat chords with a hollow body Gibson and belts out blues with his whisper to growl voice, his sound rooted in the jazz tradition of Louisiana. His vocals evoke the sound of early Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. Arts & Entertainment.Music 25276 Newman CA United States 95360 (209)862-4490 http://www.westsidetheatre.org George Cole has played to sold out shows at Carnegie Hall in New York and The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley. He dazzled audiences at The Grammys Showcase in November 2008. Cole's superbly crafted and melodically sophisticated original music reminds us of the best of George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer, and Cole Porter. He is considered by many of his peers to be one of the top "acoustic shred masters". His highly stylized approach sounds like a cross between Django Reinhardt and vintage Les Paul. George's crooning vocals evoke the sound of early Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. His songs have a Jazz Age, Swing Era, and Gypsy Jazz rhythm that will make you want to move your feet and get up and dance. Some of his finest compositions are slow exquisite waltzes, such as "Sheila's Waltz" and "Waltz of the Trees." Vive Le Jazz! could either suggest a hot sultry evening in a Parisian nightclub in the Jazz Age or the energy of a large rock concert in a stadium. The mix of high energy guitar playing, soaring violin flights, and propulsive "le pompe" rhythm guitar style creates a dynamic musical experience. George's compositions are regarded as some of the most sophisticated and intelligent music that has ever been written. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! Valjean later becomes the mayor of Montreuil-Sur-Mer, but the mark of Cain continues to burrow deep into his soul. His saga continues with a promise at her mother Fantine's death bed to rescue the child Cosette, who was being abusively raised by the Thenardiers -- opportunistic inn keepers. As the story presses on, Valjean helps a group of Parisian students during their futile revolt and lives long enough to see the adult Cosette reunited with Marius, the young fighter Valjean rescued from the barricade. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! From the beautiful West Coast of Canada comes this extraordinary quintet, renowned among folk music fans of all ages for their instrumental virtuosity, lush vocal arrangements, exuberant live performances, evocative songwriting, and refreshingly innovative interpretations of traditional tunes from around the globe. Drawing musical inspiration from a broad range of North American traditions, a mlange of European stylings, rhythms of Latin America, and melodies of the wandering Romany peoples, The Bills have forged a musical style all their own that transcends musical boundaries and defies simple categorization. With three main writers in the band, The Bills have developed a glorious and growing repertoire of songs that speak of their own part of the world. Marc Atkinson is one of Canada's finest JUNO-nominated, Western Canadian award-winning musicians. He is the leader and composer of the internationally renowned Marc Atkinson Trio (and co-founder, composer and performer in the Bills). The music of this virtuosic group is melodically captivating, sensually charged and ferociously, technically awe-inspiring. Embracing a lifetime of musical influences, Marc and the Trio have just released their fourth CD, The Marc Atkinson Trio IV, praised as the finest yet. The Trio, formed in 2000, has toured North America, England and Europe and has received standing ovations everywhere they perform from the Montreal Jazz Festival to the Vancouver International Folk Festival to DjangoFest Northwest. -------------------------- This event was submitted by Brown Paper Tickets! It is the classic Cinderella story; confirmed bachelor and phonetics expert, Henry Higgins, makes a wager that he can take a cockney flower girl out of the gutter and pass her off as a member of high society. What he doesn't count on is falling in love with his creation! The show bursts with one of the most tuneful Broadway scores ever written, including "I Could Have Danced All Night", "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face", "On The Street Where You Live", "Wouldn't It Be Loverly"" and the absolutely unforgettable "Get Me To The Church On Time". You can't afford to miss this perfectly "loverly" production!. ----------------- Like many arts organizations we depend on contributions from friends and supporters in order to present the highest quality productions for your entertainment.
